Who can order it

Anyone may make a written request, and the county must charge everyone the same price, no more than its actual cost (K.S.A. 25-2320). Using the list for commercial purposes is a class C misdemeanor, but compiling, using, giving or receiving it solely for political campaign or election purposes is not commercial use (K.S.A. 25-2320a).

Tips before you order

Ask for your exact district. Sedgwick County charges $50 for the database plus $10 per district, and a district file is small enough to email.
The whole-county file in a big county has more than 250,000 rows, which is too many for Excel. Pick a district unless you have database software.
The fields above are what Johnson County lists. Other counties may give you more or fewer columns, so ask what is included.
County data is fresher than the Secretary of State's file, which is compiled from the counties only once a quarter.
Ask to exclude inactive voters. They are people whose mail shows they moved out of the county.
In Shawnee County, call 785-251-5900 for an appointment. Custom reports carry a $25 fee and half is due up front.
